Meet the Pastor

Pastor Deborah A. Johns was born in Waterbury, Connecticut and is one of 6 children. She was Raised in a Christian household, following the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Zion Church tradition. The seeds were planted at an early age to cultivate and devote her life to the ministry.

Deborah began a successful career in the software development industry serving as a Software Engineer, Computer Programmer, Systems Analyst, Project Manager and Consultant specializing in the Telecommunications Industry.  In preparation for her software development career she received a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) focused in Computer-Based Information Systems from Howard University as well as a Master of Science (MS) in Telecommunications Management from the University of Maryland.

After almost 20 years of working in the technical capacity,  Pastor Johns received and followed her calling into ministry that took her on another journey in preparation for her calling.  First she received a bachelor’s degree from Chesapeake Bible College (Ridgely, MD) in Christian Studies followed by a Master of Divinity from Nyack Alliance Theological Seminary (Nyack, NY).

While matriculating through the education process, Rev. Johns also completed the ordination process first as a Deacon and then an ordained Elder within the A.M.E. Zion church. Rev. Deborah A. Johns has served as an Associate Pastor in numerous churches in the New England Conference and now the Texas Conference.  She was a recipient of a Lilly Foundation Scholarship in which she served as a Transition Into Ministry Resident, a two-year full time pastoral training program in Boston, MA.  She also completed a one-year Residency as a Certified Pastoral Education (CPE), a Chaplain training program.  She bi-vocation minister.

Rev. Deborah A. Johns now serves as the Pastor of Walls Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church and as a Chaplain at Houston Methodist Hospital.

Pastor Deborah A. Johns has dedicated her life to ministering to others.  One of her favorite scriptures is Matthew 4: 4b “…“It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God,’. Pastor Johns understands that the word of God equips the believer with everything we need to successfully navigate life as a child of God.
